Just an FYI to let people know that I was able to secure a flight from San Diego to Munich just now via lufthansa.com instead of the pre-arranged discounted fares, and I saved $250 and I get there in 13.5 hours instead of 36 hours.

It won't be true for everybody, sure, but it might be worth a check before booking your flight.
